ABOUT ME

Hi I'm Ellie Shepherdson

I studied BA Fine Art and Curating at Manchester Metropolitan University from 2018-21 and I am passionate about making contemporary art accessible to the public. I love contemporary art but I am aware of the negative perceptions around it's creation and presentation. I also make work myself with a range of mixed media; typically investigating biology, human condition, femininity, nature and mental health. I will updating below images of my work.

Functioning as both an artist and a curator I have experienced both sides to the production of an exhibition. I want to make artists I work with feel supported and free to communicate what they want to say about their work and their personalities to lead to better understanding of artwork they create.

But I am not just about art, I have so many other interests, including here riding, sustainability, dogs, hiking, health and exercise!

This park of the website is mostly bout me so prepare for pictures of my artwork, previous curating projects and my interests!

Material Investigations

This is a photograph from my development stages in creating hand-dyed covers for photography development, i also used this to continue the study of colour

2019 "Skin- Poetic body"

This selection of photography was investigating skin details to further address the story of skin. This was a project which was free of age boundaries and addresses all kinds of markings on the skin to describe the Poetic body; which later became the name of the two year project into human condition.

2020 Textile piece

This textile multimedia piece is investigatign the mental impact of space, location and environment. This piece was produced from my wheelchair and has many details which were made due to my situation, not a perfect piece but was one I am most proud of.

2019 Advertisment for Movements - Women: The incivillity in Advertising

This is an advertisment poster in which i developed for the Slide Gallery Exhibition which I and a group curated and designed. This opened to the public 1st March 2019.

2021 Light Project

Light Project investigated both colour and light in the context of mental health. This porject saw the research into how the human condition is affected by light and colour both mentally and physcially. The work i created was tested on groups of people to evaluate impact.

2019 Unit X Exhibition

This exhibition was part of the Manchester Metropolitans Unit X module which encouraged disciplines to interact and work together to produce a show. I curated this bay (far right) as seen in the opening night.

2020 Place and being

This project investigated environments, paticualrly the urban environment in Manchetser, juxtaposed with my background and identity. A project of confusion and displacement.

2021 Light Project

This piece was a result of research on light and colour, this piece was the resulting artwork from the project made from Epoxy resin, with intentions for an installation (un-realised).
